Vegan in Paris – Shangri-La Hotel

Friday the 15th of June 2018, literally the second day in Paris was mostly spent with relaxation and walking around in La Défense. I also booked a table for afternoon tea at Shangri-La Hotel in Paris. Shangri-La is today a 5 star hotel and has a lounge and bar, Le Bar Botaniste that serves you finger food, quality Dilmah Ceylon Tea, juices, drinks and much more. While researching on vegetarian options in Paris, I found out that Le Bar Botaniste offers 100% vegan afternoon tea, which I really had to try. So we went for some afternoon tea at Shangri-La to enjoy a beautiful evening. Shangri-La Hotel is located at Avenue d’Iéna, close to Jardins du Trocadéro and only 20 min walk from Place de Charles de Gaulle and Arc de Triomphe d’Étoile.

Shangri-La Hotel was originally the private mansion of Prince Roland Bonaparte from the 19th century, who was the grandson of Lucien Bonaparte and grandnephew of Napoleon Bonaparte, and he was the father of Princess Marie Bonaparte, who was married to Prince George of Denmark and Greece, so yeah, quite interesting 😉 Many of you might have heard about Marie Bonaparte, as she was a psychoanalyst too and was close to Sigmund Freud, and eventually helped him escape Nazi-Germany during the WW2.

The Shangri-La group bought the mansion in 2008. It is now a five star hotel, but the architectural exterior is remained, and only the inner spaces were “renewed”. Somehow the original staircases, fireplaces, marble flooring and , 7 m high ceilings and doorways, chandeliers, mirrors  remain, ceiling frescos, gold-leaf accents and the molding remain untouched, and are incredible! Here are some clicks of mine 😉

We actually spent about 2 hours at the hotel, enjoying our teas, juices and finger food. It was a delicious experience and the staff is very kind.

Along with the 100% vegan finger food and pastries we went for white tea from Dilmah series (btw, Dilmah tea is from Sri Lanka and the white tea was from the Imboolpitiya Estate) and fresh (literally FRESH) apple juice. I tell you, both the tea and the juice were so yummy! 😍

Look how old and beautiful, yet comfy, it looks! 😍

After enjoying our time at Shangri-La we went down to Jardins du Trocadéro to enjoy the atmosphere and view of the Eiffel Tower – coming up next 😉
